学校:Bishop Druitt College

最近は寒いので、みんな冬服を着始めています。女子生徒はズボンかタイツを選ぶことができましたが、わたしはタイツを選びました。生地が厚くて、とってもあったかいです。ホスピタリティの授業では先生達のためのカフェをお手伝いしました。わたしはメニューを机に貼ったり、テーブルクロスやお花の準備をしました。この時間に暇な時間ができたので学校内を歩いていると、インディという女の子に会い彼女のグループに入れてもらい、一緒に勉強しました。インディはフランスに留学をしたことがあり、誰に対しても明るく優しい女の子です。彼女達は数学などの課題をやっていました。みんなとても優しかったし、一緒に勉強できてうれしかったです。

帰りのバスを待っている時にリオ君の友達がアニメで覚えた日本語を喋ってくれました。とっても面白いです。

11年生の日本語のクラスでは、テストに向けてスピーキングの練習をしています。自己紹介や住んでいる町などについて聞かれるそうです。PDHPEや宗教の授業で仲良くなった子達はとてもフレンドリーで、会うと日本語で挨拶をしてくれたり、一緒に移動してくれます。今週のホスピタリティの授業では、ロールケーキを作りました。ロールケーキを英語でロールケーキとは言わずに”swiss roll”や”jelly roll”などと言うそうです。ロールケーキは英単語だと思っていてので驚きました。今回作ったロールケーキはいちごジャムとクリームを使いました。とても甘くて美味しかったです。家で作る時はお酒をスポンジに使うので、使うのと使わないのでは味が全く違うのだなと実感しました。幼稚園の授業に参加する予定なので楽しみです。

It’s been cold these days, so everyone has started wearing winter clothes. Female students can choose between pants or tights, and I chose tights. The fabric is thick and very warm. In the Hospitality class (a single class session), I helped at the café for teachers. I put up menus on the tables and prepared the tablecloths and flowers. In this class, I had some free time. When I was walking around the school, I met a girl named Indy and asked her to join her group, so we studied together. She studied abroad in France and is a bright and kind girl to everyone. They were doing math and other assignments. Everyone was kind, and I was glad to study with them. Also, when I was waiting for the bus home, Leo’s friend spoke Japanese that he had memorized from anime. He is really funny.

In Japanese class with the year 11 students, they were practicing speaking for the exam. I heard that they will be asked to introduce themselves and the town where they live. My friends, with whom I had PDHPE and religion class, are friendly, and when I met them, they greeted me in Japanese and moved around with me.

In this week’s Hospitality class, we made a Swiss roll. I heard that roll cake is not called roll cake in English but is called a “Swiss roll” or “Jelly roll.” I thought that roll cake was an English word, so I was surprised. For the Swiss roll that we made in this class, I used strawberry jam and cream. It was sweet and tasty. When I make it at my house, I often use liquor, so I realized the taste is completely different between using it and not using it. I’m going to go to a kindergarten class, so I’m excited.
