冬休み最後の週末は土曜日にライリー君の家族とムーニービーチに行きました。ビーチにはオーストラリア周辺に生息するウォッべゴンザメが泳いでいましたが、海藻と色が似ていたので、最初は全く気が付かず、お母さんに教えてもらい気がつきました。想像以上に大きくて驚きました。ライリー君は海の生物についてとても詳しくいつもより会話が弾んで楽しかったです。お昼はミートパイを食べました。ミートパイはオーストラリアの国民食でパイの中にハンバーグが入っています。とてもジューシーでおいしかったです。夜はオーストラリアの夜空を観察しました。夜空はとても綺麗でサザンクロスが光っていました。サザンクロスは南半球でしか見る事ができず、大航海時代には正確な南方向を知る上での指標とされていた星座で、オーストラリアの国旗にも使用されています。日本で見る夜空とは違う空間が広がっていてとてもすてきな時間を過ごすことができました。翌日はライリー君のおじさんが漁師で釣ったキングフィッシュをご馳走していただきました。キングフィッシュはオーストラリアの高級魚で、お刺身でいただきました。オーストラリアでお刺身を食べるのは珍しくあまり普段食べる事ができないので嬉しかったです。味はブリに近く新鮮でとてもおいしかったです。今週から学校の授業が始まったのでオーストラリアの友達と話したり、一緒に授業を受けるの楽しみです。

On the last weekend of the winter vacation, I went to Moonee beach with Riley’s family. A wobbegong shark, which live around Australia, was swimming on the beach, but it was similar in color to seaweed, so at first l didn’t notice it at all until Riley’s mum showed me. I was surprised that it was bigger than l imagined. Riley is very knowledgeable about sea creatures, and we talked more than usual. It was very fun. I ate a meat pie at lunch, which is Australia’s national food. It is a patty inside the pie and was very juicy and delicious. I observed the Australian night sky, which was very beautiful, and the southern cross was shining. The southern cross can only be seen in the southern hemisphere, and it is also used on the Australian flag. The Australian night sky is different and seems larger than the Japanese night sky. I had a very nice time. The next day, at Riley’s uncle’s house, Riley’s uncle treated us to a kingfish he caught. Kingfish is a luxury fish from Australia and is served as sashimi. It’s special to eat sashimi in Australia, so l was very happy because l hadn’t eaten it. The taste was fresh and very delicious, and close to yellowtail. School started this week, so l am looking forward to talking and joining classes with my Australian friends.
