先週の水曜日から土曜日までニューカッスルとシドニーへ旅行に行きました。1日目はニューカッスルビーチでスターフィッシュやクジラなど海の生物を間近で見たり、オーストラリア東邦の熱帯雨林に自生するガンジーボーイなど初めて見る植物に触れる事ができとても刺激的な一日を過ごしました。帰りにはキャラメルコアラというユニークなネーミングのアイスを食べました。２日目はシドニーへ行きフェリーに乗って景色を眺めたり、シドニー国立植物園に行き世界の様々な植物を視察することができました。午後はショッピングを楽しみました。家族や友達のことを思いながらお土産を選びましたが、時間があっという間に過ぎてしまい充実した一日を過ごしました。３日目はニューカッスルの町を散策しました。ニューカッスルはシドニーから車で２時間程で約200年前に建てられた昔の建物が沢山あり、歴史のある町並みでした。また石炭を都市部や海外へ輸送する大きな船を近くで見ましたが、あまりの迫力で驚きました。ライリー君のお父さんから太平洋戦争の時に日本の船がニューカッスルに攻撃してきたことを聞き、現在は日本とオーストラリアは友好国だけれども、少し前は対立していた事を現地で知り考えさせられました。日本の歴史では学べない事を詳しく聞けてとても勉強になりました。夕食は豚骨ラーメンを食べました。味は日本で食べるラーメンと違いましたが、不思議な美味しさがありました。この4日間とても充実した旅行だったので、後一ヶ月もオーストラリアの生活を楽しみたいです。
I traveled to Newcastle and Sydney from Wednesday to Saturday last week. On the first day, I saw starfishes, whales, and other sea creatures up close . l also came across and was able to touch sea creatures, such as the cunjevoi, which grows wild in the rainforests of eastern Australia. I had never seen it before and had a very stimulating day. On the way home, I ate ice cream that had a unique name called “caramel koala.”
On the second day, we went to Sydney and took a ferry to see the scenery. I was able to observe various plants from around the world at the Sydney National Botanic Gardens. I enjoyed shopping in the afternoon. I chose souvenirs while thinking about my family and friends. The time passed quickly and I had a fulfilling day. On the third day, we explored the city of Newcastle. Newcastle is about two hours by car from Sydney. There are many old buildings built about two hundred years ago, and it is a historical townscape. Also, I saw a large ship that transported coal to cities and overseas. I was surprised at how powerful the ship was. I heard from Riley’s father that Japanese ships attacked Newcastle during the Pacific War, and though Japan and Australia are now friendly nations, they were at odds with each other at that time. I learned a lot about Japanese history from a different perspective and was able to hear about things that I would not normally learn in the classroom.
Later on, I ate tonkotsu, pork broth based ramen for dinner. The taste was a little different from the ramen one could eat in Japan, but it was strangely delicious. These four days were very fulfilling, so I want to continue enjoying my stay in Australia.
