週末はライリー君のおじいさんの農場へ行きました。日本は小さい土地で農業をしている人が多いですが、オーストラリアは山奥にあり広くて大きい農場が多くありおじいさんの農場も自分が想像していたより広くて驚きました。農場を案内してもらいましたが移動は歩きだけど広過ぎて大変なのでトラクターでした。僕も初めてトラクターを運転させてもらいました。アクセルの加減が分からず思ってた以上にスピードが出て焦りましたが、安全に運転できてよかったです。ライリー君のお父さんが運転の様子を撮影していて確認したら、思っていたより怖がっていたので笑えました。また家畜も多く牛200頭、鶏、山羊、豚など触れ合う事ができ貴重な経験になりました。お昼はおじいさんが育てたアンガス牛と野菜でハンバーガーを作りました。日本のお肉より肉肉しくて食べ応えがありました。午後はおじいさんの手伝いをしました。日本でも農作業をした事があるのですが、オーストラリアの農機具は日本の物よりも何倍もどれも大きくて驚く事ばかりでした。
先週は学校でも初めての体験がありました。海でカヤックに乗る授業です。カヤックとは小型の船で両端にブレードのついた(ダブルブレードパドル)を使って、正面前方に向かって漕ぎます。初めは要領がつかめず苦戦しましたが、段々と慣れ、前に進む感覚がとてもおもしろいです。またカヤックを協力して漕いだり競争したりして友達との絆が深まった感じがしました。もっと積極的に話しかけて、充実した学校生活を送りたいです。
On weekend, l went to Riley’s grandfather’s farm. In Japan, many people farm on small plots of land, but Australia is surrounded by mountains, and there are many large and spacious farms. I was given a tour of the farm, but it was too big to walk around, so I used a tractor. I was my first time to drive a tractor. I didn’t know how to press the accelerator, so I got faster than I expected and got impatient, but I’m glad I was able to drive safely. Riley’s father was filming the driving, and when I checked it out, I looked more scared than I thought, so I laughed.
In addition, there are many livestock, including 200 cows, chickens, goats, and pigs, which was a valuable experience. For lunch, I made a hamburger with Angus beef and vegetables raised by my grandfather. It was more meaty than Japanese meat, and it was satisfying to eat. I helped Riley’s grandfather in the afternoon I’ve done farm work in Japan as well, but I was always surprised at how many times bigger the size of Australian agricultural machinery is in Japan.
Last week I had my first experience at school. I rode a kayak on the sea. A kayak is a small boat that is paddled using a double paddle with blades on each end. At first, I struggled because I couldn’t grasp the point, but I gradually got used to it and the feeling of moving forward is very interesting. In addition, I felt that my bond with my friends deepened by cooperating and competing in kayaking. I want to talk to them more proactively and have a fulfilling school life.
