活動報告

先週、日本に住んでいる僕の家族がオーストラリアに観光しにきました。彼らは初日に、ホストファミリーの家に訪れ、カンガルーソーセージやオーストラリアで作られたチーズを食べました。日本では食べたことがないような食材がほとんどで、とても驚いていました。また、僕の家族はカンガルーがなぜこんなに一般食としてたくさん食べられているのか疑問に思っていました。そして、オーストラリアに来て一度もカンガルーの農場を見たことがないことを思い出し、どうやって需要が追いついているのか、不思議になりました。

ウェブサイトによると、オーストラリアには約5000万匹(人口の2倍)のカンガルーが生息しており、スーパーなどで売っているものは全て狩師によって取られていると書いてありました。日本の鹿やイノシシとは違い一般化されていること知りました。久しぶりの日本人で日本語をしっかり話せるか心配だったけど、オーストラリアに来る前と変わらず、自然に話すことができました。いくら日常で英語を使っても母語はなかなか忘れないんだなと思いました。次の日はホストファミリーと家族でサーフィンをしたり、コフスハーバーの町を案内したりしました。ショッピングモールで買い物をした時、僕の家族は物の物価が高い、マスクをしていない、サンダルを履いている人がほとんどなどさまざまなことに驚いていました。

なかでも、オーストラリアの回転寿司にとても興味を示していました。以前僕は一回だけ行ったことがありました。日本の寿司とは少し違っていたけれど、味は思ったより良かったです。日本の寿司文化に他の国の食材や文化を混ぜたみたいで、全く新しい回転寿司でした。さまざまな料理が出てきて楽しかったです。何より、回転寿司がオーストラリアで人気なのをみて、日本人としてとても嬉しかったです。この数日、自分の家族と話す中、今ままで気づかなかったことや、新しい発見が多くありました。また、ホストファミリーと自分の家族の通訳を少ししたことで、どのくらいの英語力がついたか、再確認することができ、自分がこれから伸ばさなければいけないポイントを知ることができました。

Last week, my family who live in Japan came to Australia to do sightseeing. The first day they came to Australia, they visited my host family and ate kangaroo meat sausages and the cheeses made in Australia. Most of food my family ate are not seen in Japan. We were surprised by it. My family also wondered how Australian people are able to get a lot of kangaroo as a usual food. Then, I remembered I have never seen a farmer of kangaroos since coming to Australia ,I doubt how the store supply kangaroo to customer. According to website, About 50 million kangaroos that are as many as two double of Australian people inhabit in Australia. Also, all of them sold in supermarket are hunted by hunter. I knew that the kangaroos are more common different from Japanese boar and deer.  With my father and my brother coming to Australia, I worried about speaking Japanese but I was able to talk in Japanese naturally same as before Coming to Australia. I thought we don’t forget native language even if we always speak English. Next day, my host family and my family surfed together and I introduced Coffs Harbour to my family. When my family were shopping, they seemed to be surprised at everything. For example, the product is expensive, the people don’t wear masks, everybody wears thongs. Especially, they were interested in Australian sushi train. I have been to the store once before. The sushi were different from Japanese ones but the taste was very good. The store adapted Japanese sushi to Australian taste. It was new type of sushi train. I enjoyed to eat various foods. The best of all, I was happy as Japanese people that the sushi train is popular in Australia. These days, in conversation with my family, there were a lot of things I didn’t notice and I was talking about new things. Also, I could see how my English improved by translating conversations between my family and my host family. I realized I need to study to improve my English skills.
