This weekend, I spent a lot of time at home, so I tried my best to get used to native English by watching English movies as much as possible. At first, I couldn’t understand what people were saying at all, but I worked hard to get used to it by slowing the movies down, using subtitles, and translating unfamiliar parts. Gradually, I started to understand more of what was being said. I was also able to learn expressions that native speakers use in everyday conversation, which are difficult to learn through normal study, so I was happy about that.
I also went to the cinema with my host family. However, the movie was a little difficult, and there were many words that I did not know, so it was hard to understand. The next day, I called my friends in Japan in the morning and watched the Japan vs. Netherlands World Cup match. It was a very exciting game and I really enjoyed it. After that, everyone at school watched the World Cup live together. I listened to the English commentary as well, but when the commentators got excited, they spoke very quickly and I could hardly understand what they were saying. I still have difficulty keeping up with some of my classes, so I want to continue improving my English skills and be able to follow lessons more confidently.
今週末は家にいる時間がかなりあったので部屋で洋画をとにかく見続けてネイティブに慣れようと頑張りました。最初はほんとうになにを言ってるのかが全くわかりませんでしたがスローモーションにしたり字幕をつけたり翻訳をしたりして、どうにか慣れようと頑張りました。だんだんなにを言ってるのかがわかるようになってきました。普段勉強していて学ぶことのないようなネイティブの人が使う表現を学ぶことができたのもよかったです。ホストファミリーと映画館に映画を見に行ったのですが、その話は内容が少し難しくて知らない単語がたくさんあったので理解するのが難しかったです。次の日は朝から日本の友達と電話を繋いで日本対オランダの試合を見ました。とても迫力のある試合でとても面白かったです。そのあと学校ではみんなでワールドカップをライブでずっと見ていました。解説の声も英語にして聞いていたのですが、興奮していると早口になりほんとうになにを言ってるのかが分かりませんでした。まだまだ授業にもついて行けていないのでもっと英語力をつけてしっかり授業についていけるようにしたいです。
