I had my final performance, “Take Flight,” at VAB.
We went to the theater on Tuesday and had a dress rehearsal on Wednesday. This theater was different from the ones we usually perform in. The stage felt smaller, but the audience seating extended up to the second-floor balcony, which gave the theater a great sense of depth. After the dress rehearsal, the director advised us to “perform with enough energy and expression to reach the audience all the way up to the balcony.”
Thursday was the performance day. While dancing Coppélia, I once again realized how happy dancing makes me feel. I also felt a strong sense of unity on stage when we danced together and made eye contact with each other. In the contemporary piece, I was able to stay focused until the very end so that our movements and counts stayed synchronized.
In addition, the senior students’ dancing was truly amazing, and I was able to etch their wonderful performances into my memory.
During the final reverence at the end of the show, I felt sad because I realized it was the last performance with all the VAB students.
After the performance, I was very happy to take pictures with my classmates and senior students.
Through my study abroad experience, I had the opportunity to perform on many stages. By actually standing on stage and dancing in front of an audience, I was able to gain many valuable experiences that will help me grow as a dancer in the future.

VABでの最後のパフォーマンス”Take Flight “がありました。
火曜日に劇場入りをして、水曜日にゲネプロを行いました。今回はいつもとは違う劇場で舞台は狭く感じましたが、客席は2階のバルコニーまであり奥行きを感じました。ゲネプロ後にディレクターからバルコニーにいる観客までエネルギーや表現を届ける舞台にしましょうとアドバイスを頂きました。
木曜日は本番当日でした。コッペリアを踊ってるときは踊ることの楽しさを改めて実感しましました。また、全員で踊ってるときや友達と目が合ったときは舞台上の一体感を感じました。コンテンポラリーダンスは動きやカウントがズレないように最後まで集中して踊り切れました。
そして、先輩方の踊りはどれも圧巻で、素敵な踊りを目に焼き付けることが出来ました。
最後のフィナーレでレベランスをしたときはこれでVABのみんなとのパフォーマンスが終了することを実感し寂しい気持ちになりました。
パフォーマンス終了後はクラスメイトや先輩方と写真を撮ることができてとても嬉しかったです。
留学を通じて沢山の舞台を経験させてもらいました。実際に舞台に立ち観客の前で踊ることで今後の糧になる経験を多く積むことができました。
