On Monday, my host mother, her daughter, and I cleaned the garden and got ready to plant new seeds. A truck delivered ten yards of compost, and her daughter helped move it to different areas. I mainly helped with weeding. My host mother showed me which plants to keep and which ones were weeds, and I pulled out the weeds with a shovel. In places where the weeds were tightly packed, it was hard to get the shovel into the ground, so removing them was difficult. When I finally pulled them out, I was surprised to see that their roots were as thick as burdock. I had never seen roots that thick before. After finishing, the garden looked neat and clean with only the plants left. It was hard work, but seeing the beautiful garden made me feel refreshed as well. I was happy when my host mother said, “Thank you, you were a big help.”
月曜日にホストマザーと娘さんと一緒に庭をきれいにして新しい種を植える準備をしました。トラックで10ヤードの肥料が届き、娘さんはその肥料をそれぞれの場所に運んでくれました。
私は主に草取りを手伝いました。ホストマザーから残す草花と雑草を教えてもらい雑草をシャベルで抜きました。雑草が固まっていた場所はシャベルが中々入らず抜くのが大変でした。抜けた雑草を見るとごぼうくらい太い根っこでした。初めて見る太さにとても驚きました。雑草を抜き終わった庭を見るときれいな草花だけが残りスッキリしていました。大変な作業でしたがきれいな庭を見て心までスッキリしました。ホストマザーからありがとう、とても助かったよと言ってもらえて嬉しかったです。
