It’s been a month since I came to Australia.

The school class timetable changed this week. Until now, it was the same timetable as Penny’s. But now, I was able to choose my timetable. I chose English, Japanese, Mathematics, Chemistry, Hospitality and Dance. The classes are completely different to Japan. I’m studying factorization in Mathematics now. It is interesting when I’m doing a solution that I’ve never been taught in Japan. I’m studying experiment of flame color reaction in Chemistry. It feels a little difficult because I don’t know the English words for the elements, such as Hydrogen and Oxygen. Also, gas burners and experimental methods are slightly different to Japan. If there is something I don’t understand, everyone will kindly teach me, so I’m relieved. I feel I can learn things through classes that you can’t learn from living in Australia alone. For example, the content of the class is different to content in classes in Japan. Students talk a lot in class here than in Japan.

We had a birthday party for friends at the beach on the weekend. We all played on the beach, ate the snacks and lunch we bought, and played card games. There were many snacks I had never eaten before. For example, gummies and potato chips, which I enjoyed. We played werewolf game with playing cards. It was very fun at the birthday party with a large number of people, which is rare in Japan.

I think English sounds more natural to me than when I first came. I am becoming used to hearing it. I can talk with friends, but I feel it is difficult to continue communicating, because it takes time to think of my reply in English. I want to reduce the number of the words I don’t know and spend the rest of the month carefully so that I can communicate.

オーストラリアに来てから1か月が経ちました。
今週、学校の時間割が変わりました。今まではペニーと同じ時間割でしたが、今は自分で選んだ時間割で授業を受けています。私は英語、日本語、数学、化学、家庭科、ダンスを選択しました。日本とは授業の様子が全然違います。数学では因数分解を勉強しています。日本で習ったことのない解き方をしている時があるので面白いです。化学では炎色反応の実験を行いました。水素や酸素などの元素の英語名が分からないため、少し難しく感じます。また、ガスバーナーや実験方法も日本とは少し違いました。授業は移動教室で友達と移動し一緒に授業を受けています。分からないことがあっても、みんな優しく教えてくれるので安心です。授業内容が日本とは違うし、日本よりも授業中に生徒が積極的に発言します。オーストラリアで生活するだけでは学べないことを、授業を通して学べていると感じます。
週末にはビーチで友達の誕生日パーティーをやりました。みんなでビーチで遊んだり、買ってきたお菓子やお昼を食べ、カードゲームをしました。グミやポテトチップスなど、まだ食べたことのないお菓子もたくさんありました。トランプを使って人狼ゲームもしました。日本ではあまりない大人数での誕生日パーティーでとても楽しかったです。
英語は、来たばかりの頃よりも自然に聞き取りができるようになったと思います。友達と話すことはできますが、英語で返事を考えるのに時間がかかるため、会話を続けるのが難しいと感じる時があります。これからは知らない単語を減らし、コミュニケーションができるようにあと残り1ヶ月間大切に生活したいです。
