On Saturday, I went to a Japanese restaurant with three friends from VAB. One of my friends had visited the restaurant before and recommended it, saying that the food was very delicious. The restaurant was crowded with many customers, and I could really feel how popular it was as well as the high level of interest in Japanese cuisine. There were so many appealing dishes on the menu that it was hard to choose, but I decided to order one of the restaurant’s popular dishes, the grilled mackerel set meal. When the food arrived, the set included the main dish of grilled mackerel, four kinds of side dishes, steamed rice, and miso soup. Everything looked so appetizing that I couldn’t decide what to eat first. When I tried the mackerel, it was thick, tender, and juicy, with crispy skin, and it was absolutely delicious. The side dishes, such as simmered vegetables and tempura, were also authentic Japanese dishes. Every dish had a nostalgic flavor that reminded me of my time in Japan. The food was so good that I felt it was a shame to finish it. There were many other dishes on the menu that looked delicious, so I would love to visit the restaurant again.

On Sunday, I attended a birthday party for the host family’s daughter at the home of a host family I stayed with for a short time during the summer. About fifteen people gathered for the party, including her grandparents and friends, and we celebrated in a lively and joyful atmosphere.
I gave her a diamond ballpoint pen and a necklace as birthday presents. When I gave them to her, she was very happy, and she put on the necklace right away. It looked lovely on her and suited her very well.
For dinner, we had a charcuterie board and chicken and vegetable soup. The charcuterie board was beautifully arranged and very colorful, with cured meats such as prosciutto and salami, along with various cheeses, crackers, nuts, and fruits. There were many kinds of cheeses and meats, and I enjoyed tasting the different flavors. I especially liked the deviled eggs. The soup was comforting and warming, with the rich flavors of the ingredients coming together nicely. For dessert, we had a homemade Torta Caprese, a traditional flourless chocolate cake that originated on the Italian island of Capri. I enjoyed the contrast between its crisp outside and moist inside, as well as its rich chocolate flavor. It was so delicious that I asked for the recipe. The host mother told me it could be made easily with simple ingredients, so I would like to try making it myself someday. During the meal, everyone listened patiently to my imperfect English, and I felt the warmth and kindness of the family and their friends. At the same time, I became aware of my lack of speaking ability and felt motivated to improve my English so that I can communicate more confidently.
I am truly grateful to the host family for inviting me to the birthday party. I was very happy to share such a wonderful time with them and to celebrate together.土曜日にVABの友人3人と一緒に日本食レストランに行きました。友人の1人が以前訪れて、とても美味しかったと紹介してくれたお店です。 店内には多くのお客さんが来店しており、お店の人気度と日本食の関心の高さを感じました。興味を引くメニューばかりで迷いましたが、私はお店の人気メニューのさば焼き定食を注文しました。料理が運ばれてくるとメイン料理のさばの他に4種類の副菜、白米とお味噌汁がついてきました。どれも目を引くものばかりで何から食べるか迷いました。頂くとさばはふっくらした肉厚の身とパリッとした皮でほっこりしとても美味しかったです。副菜の煮物や天ぷらも本格的な和食でした。どの料理も日本にいた頃を思い出す懐かしい味でした。食べ終わるのが勿体ないと感じるくらい美味しかったです。他にも美味しそうな料理が沢山あったのでまた訪れたいです。

日曜日、夏に短期間ホームステイさせて頂いたホストファミリーの家で娘さんの誕生日パーティーをしました。パーティーには、娘さんの祖父母や友人など総勢15人集まり、盛大にお祝いをしました。私は、ダイヤモンドが付いたボールペンとネックレスをプレゼントしました。プレゼントを渡すと、とても喜んでくれて、ネックレスはその場ですぐにつけてくれました。似合っていて可愛かったです。
夕食はシャルキュトリーボード(生ハム・サラミなどの加工肉、チーズ、クラッカー、ナッツ、フルーツを木のボードに盛り合わせたもの)とチキンと野菜のスープでした。シャルキュトリーボードはとても豪華で華やかでした。何種類ものチーズや加工肉、クラッカーがあり様々な味を堪能できました。私は特にデビルドエッグが気に入りました。スープはそれぞれの具材の旨味が出て体が温まりました。デザートには手作りのトルタ・カプレーゼ(イタリア・カプリ島発祥の小麦粉を使わない伝統的なチョコレートケーキ)をいただきました。サクッとした外側としっとりとした中身、濃厚なチョコの味わいが楽しめました。とてもおいしかったのでレシピを教えてもらいました。ホストマザーがシンプルな材料で簡単にできると教えてくれたので自分でも作ってみたいです。食事中は私の不慣れな英語に耳を傾けてくれ家族や友人の温かさを感じました。また同時にスピーキング力の無さ改めて実感し、もっと話せるようになりたいと思いました。
誕生日パーティーに招待してくれたホストファミリーには感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。楽しい時間を共有しながら、一緒にお祝いができて嬉しかったです。
