There was an advent calendar at home on December 1st. I assembled it, one per person, with my host parents and Julia after dinner on Saturday.I did this a long time ago, when I was in elementary school. So, I had no idea where to start, and I just put my sentences together. As I was struggling and not making much progress, my host mother told me that there was a completed picture on the back of the box and that it would be easier if I used it as a reference. Taking her advice helped me get the hang of it. As the finished image gradually became clearer, it started to feel fun. When I placed the final piece and completed it, I felt a great sense of accomplishment.

On Monday, after my lesson at VAB, I was invited to a Christmas party at my friend’s homestay. The inside of the house was beautifully decorated for Christmas, with a large Christmas tree and nutcracker dolls, which made it very cute.
The host mother had prepared many delicious-looking dishes and sweets. The table was filled with a colorful variety of food, including vegetables, snacks, her homemade meatballs, cheese toast, and cookies, which instantly made me hungry. We ate fresh vegetables and crackers with guacamole and hummus. I had never tried guacamole or hummus in Japan before, but they went very well together and tasted great. The meatballs and cheese toast were especially delicious, and I could really feel the warmth of homemade food, so I had seconds. The homemade cookies had a perfectly balanced sweetness and a crumbly texture that made it impossible for me to stop eating.
After dinner, the host mother prepared a gingerbread house kit for us. Making a candy house had been a dream of mine since childhood, so I was thrilled when she brought it out. My friend and I worked together to make one house. First, we decorated the cookies using icing, gummies, and chocolate sprinkles. It was difficult to draw patterns with the icing and attach the gummies neatly, but it was fun to watch the simple cookies become more colorful and festive. Next, we used icing to stick the decorated cookies together to form the house. There was a small accident when the roof fell down on halfway though, but we managed to complete it safely in the end. The one-of-a-kind gingerbread house we made together turned out very cute and satisfying.
This experience became another unforgettable memory for me. I am deeply grateful to the host mother and my friend for their warm and thoughtful hospitality at the Christmas party. It was a heartwarming and unforgettable Christmas celebration.

12月1日に家にジグソーパズルのアドベントカレンダーが置いてありました。土曜日の夕食後にホストペアレント、ジュリアちゃんと一緒に1人1個のジグソーパズルを組み立てました。私は小学生以来、久しぶりにジグソーパズルをしました。そのため、最初は何から手をつけていいのか分からずただの感覚で組み立てていました。中々進まず苦戦していると、ホストマザーが引き出しの裏に完成形の絵がありそれを参考にすると進めやすいと教えてくれました。アドバイスを参考にするとコツが掴めてきました。だんだんと完成形が見えてくると楽しくなってきました。最後の1ピースをはめて完成した瞬間は達成感がありました。

月曜日、VABでのレッスン後、友人のホームステイ先のクリスマスパーティーに招待してもらいました。友人のホームステイ先の室内は、クリスマス仕様に飾り付けられ大きなクリスマスツリーやくるみ割り人形があり可愛いかったです。また、ホストマザーが美味しそうな料理やお菓子を準備してくれていました。食卓には、野菜やスナック、ホストマザーの手作りミートボール、チーズトースト、クッキーなどの沢山の料理が色鮮やかに並べられて、食欲がそそられました。生野菜やクラッカーにワカモレやハマスをつけて食べました。日本ではワカモレやハマスを食べたことがなかったですが、相性がよく美味しかったです。特にミートボールとチーズトーストは、手作りの温かさが伝わる料理で美味しくおかわりをしました。手作りクッキーは程よい甘さとホロホロした食感でいくらでも食べられる味でした。
夕食後にホストマザーがジンジャーブレッドハウスのキットを用意してくれていました。お菓子の家を作ることは子どもの頃からの憧れだったため、ホストマザーが持ってきてくれた時は気持ちが躍りました。友達と協力して１つの家を作りました。まず、アイシングやグミ、チョコスプレーを使ってクッキーにデコレーションをしました。アイシングを上手に使い模様を描いたりグミをくっつける行程は難しかったですが、シンプルなクッキーが華やかに装飾していく様子が楽しかったです。次に、デコレーションしたクッキー同士をアイシングで家の形にくっつけていきました。途中、屋根が落ちるハプニングもありましたが無事完成出来ました。2人で作った世界に1つのジンジャーブレッドハウスは可愛く納得のいく出来になりました。また新たに心に残る思い出が増えました。
クリスマスパーティーでホストマザーと友人が沢山の心のこもったおもてなしをしてくれたことに感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。心温まる忘れられないクリスマスパーティーになりました。
