On Monday, it was holiday in Canada called “Thanksgiving Day.” Canada’s Thanksgiving Day appreciates the harvest and the grace of autumn, Families gather, and people eat special meals such as turkey, stuffing(diced bread mixed with vegetables like celery and onions, herbs, and baked in the oven; a stuffing or side dish for turkey.)and pumpkin pie.
Preparation for the meal begins around lunchtime. I helped to make stuffing and apple pie. Since we have an apple tree at home, I made an apple pie using apples from our own tree. Together with my host mother, I peeled about 20 to 30 apples. It was difficult to cut the apple peels into continuous, round strips, and I struggled with it.
Before dinner, host parents’ daughter showed us photos from her trip to France. The historic streets were lovely, and it made me want to visit too.
The meal brought together host parents’ daughter, son, the host father’s mother, sister, and others, making 11 of us in total. The dishes included turkey, stuffing, corn pudding, and potato gratin—it was truly luxurious. We ate the turkey with cranberry and gravy sauce. The turkey and stuffing, which I was eating for the first time, were delicious. For dessert, I had pumpkin pie and apple pie. The pumpkin pie was exquisite, with the perfect combination of pumpkin’s natural sweetness and the aroma of cinnamon. The apple pie perfectly matched the apples’ inherent sweet-tart flavor with the flaky, crisp texture of the pie crust.
Chatting away while eating special meals with my host family ,I was able to spend a busy holiday.
