It has become mid-September, and the sun began setting earlier each day. In summer, there were many people who took walks because it was still bright until 9 p.m. Recently, the sun has begun setting at 7 p.m. The current climate in Canada is characterized by dry air and large temperature fluctuations. Mornings and evenings are around 12°C, making it a bit cold. The times when I go to language school and come home from ballet school, I feel cold even if I wear long-sleeved shirt and long pants. The daytime temperature outside is pleasant. I often see people wearing glasses because the sunlight is strong. In summer, l felt more comfortable, because it was cooler here than in Japan. However, my body was used to Japan’s heat, so the coolness of Canadian summers was beyond my imagination. I feel like it’s become autumn before my body got adjusted.

Sunday was my final day of the temporary homestay. To express my appreciation to the host family, I made origami. For the host family and my Mexican friend, I created ribbon message cards. For the daughter, I chose to fold a dress and a heart. She loved reading books and was always reading. That’s why I selected a heart-shaped bookmark to fold. The origami paper I bought in Canada was thicker than Japanese paper and difficult to fold, but I folded it with all my heart. When I handed over the finished origami, they were so happy to receive it, which made me happy too. At the same time, a feeling of sadness welled up inside me. My host family was truly kind, and I wished I could have spent more time with them. Cooking Japanese food, teaching Japanese, playing on the trampoline—I spent such fulfilling days that I felt like much more than just three weeks. I am filled with gratitude towards my host family.

On Wednesday, I gave a simple presentation at language school. Using the superlative grammar, I introduced the country assigned to my group of 3 or 4 people. My group introduced Canada. We talked about tourist spots like the CN Tower, food, and sports like ice hockey. We also presented on the friendly and kind nature of Canadians.
The other groups presented on Australia and Fiji. They introduced delicious-looking foods and fantastic sunsets, making me want to visit someday. By actually thinking through and presenting what we learned in class ourselves, I was able to output the information and deepen my understanding.

9月の中旬になり日が沈む時間帯が早くなってきました。夏は9時でも外が少し明るく散歩している人が多くいました。最近では7時頃から日が沈み始めます。今のカナダの気候は空気が乾燥していて1日の寒暖差が大きいです。朝晩は12℃前後で肌寒く、語学学校への登校やバレエスクールから下校する時間帯は長袖長ズボンでも寒く感じます。日中は外にいて気持ちのよい気温です。また、日差しが強いためサングラスをかけている人を多く見かけます。日中は日本より涼しく過ごしやすかったです。一方で、日本の暑さに身体が慣れていたので、カナダの夏の涼しさは想像以上でした。身体が慣れないまま秋を迎えたように感じます。

日曜日はテンポラリーでのホームステイ、最終日でした。ホストファミリーへのお礼の気持ちを込めて折り紙を折りました。ホストファミリーとメキシコ人の友達にはリボンのメッセージカードを作りました。娘さんにはドレスとハートの折り紙を折りました。娘さんは本を読むのが好きでよく本を読んでいました。そのため、ハートの栞を選んで折りました。カナダで購入した折り紙は日本の折り紙と比べ厚みがあり、折るのが難しかったですが、心を込めて折りました。完成した折り紙を渡すと、とても喜んで受け取ってくれて嬉しかったです。嬉しさと同時に寂しさも込み上げてきました。ホストファミリーは本当に素敵なファミリーでもっと一緒に過ごしたい気持ちにもなりました。日本料理を作ったこと、日本語を教えたこと、トランポリンで遊んだことなど、3週間とは思えないくらい充実した日々を過ごせました。ホストファミリーに感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。

水曜日に語学学校で簡単なプレゼンをしました。最上級の文法を使い、1グループ3.4人で振り分けられた国の紹介をしました。私のグループはカナダの紹介をしました。CNタワーなどの観光スポット、食べ物、アイスホッケーなどのスポーツの紹介をしました。また、カナダの優しく親切な人柄についても発表しました。他のグループはオーストラリアとフィジーの発表でした。美味しそうな食べ物や幻想的な夕日の紹介があり、いつか訪れてみたいと感じました。授業で習ったことを実際に自分達で考えて発表することでアウトプットされ理解が深まりました。
