Sunday this week was Mother’s Day. I felt that Mother’s Day in Australia is a bit different from in Japan. In Japan, it’s usually just a small thing, like giving a simple gift, and it doesn’t seem as widely celebrated. But in Australia, it feels like a much more special day. Many families go out to restaurants or share words of appreciation, and the whole atmosphere feels warm. I thought this was a really nice tradition.
That day, my host mother told me, “Even just a message is fine, so make sure you say thank you to your mom.” Usually, I feel a bit shy about saying things like that, but it encouraged me to send my mom a message. It was a good chance to think again about how much I appreciate her support and love.
This Mother’s Day made me realize how important mothers are and how big a role they play in our lives. It was a special day to reflect on family and appreciate the people who support us.

今週は母の日があった。オーストラリアの母の日は、日本の母の日と少し違うと感じた。日本では、ちょっとしたプレゼントを渡すくらいで、そこまで大きく祝うイメージはないが、オーストラリアではもっと特別な日として大切にされているように思う。多くの家族がレストランに行ったり、感謝の言葉を伝えたりしていて、全体的に温かい雰囲気が広がっているのが印象的だった。これはとても素敵な文化だと思った。
その日、ホストマザーから「メッセージでもいいから、お母さんにちゃんと感謝を伝えなさい」と言われた。普段はこういうことを伝えるのは少し恥ずかしいが、その言葉に後押しされ、母にメッセージを送った。普段支えてくれていることや愛情に改めて感謝する良いきっかけになった。
今回の母の日を通して、母親の存在の大きさやそのありがたさに気づくことができた気がする。家族の大切さを改めて感じられた、特別な一日になった。
