This week is my first week at BDC. When I came here, I thought everyone was really kind. I also thought the atmosphere of BDC was a little bit different from CCGS, but I’m not really sure yet. Visually, BDC looks quite different to CCGS in terms of greenery and layout, among other things, however, I have not yet had the chance to explore the entire school.
I haven’t done much this week as I only arrived in Coffs Harbour on Thursday, however, on Thursday I was able to attend one class which was Economics. I was surprised that Daisy, who studied abroad in Ueda Nishi last year was also in the Economics class. After going to the class, I think that Economics is really hard.
My first full school day was on Friday. Before school started, I made some friends including Armaan (Indian/ French) and Ben, who accompanied Daniel and I to the school cafe, where we all got hot chocolates which were good.
To start the school day, we had an assembly which was quite boring, however, I was surprised to hear that Daniel’s school house, Murray, won the cross country despite coming in last the previous year. After that, I went to Economics again, where the class was learning about price elasticity of demand. After Economics, I had recess, where I got a meat pie and a finger bun from the school canteen. I loved the meat pie, however, the finger bun was okay at best.
For my next classes, I went with Nils to his Maths class, where they learnt about standard deviation which I found pretty hard, as I am not familiar with their calculator.
At lunch, I made some friends, including Teo, Xavier and Duke. After that, I went to Daniel’s Japanese class. In the class, I was able to meet Yukina and Nao again! I was surprised that there Japanese class was so small, as the only student other than Daniel in the class was Lily, who came to Ueda Nishi last year. After Japanese, I went to Chemistry class. I think the teacher was very kind and that Chemistry is an interesting subject.
I also noticed there is a Japanese girl called Saho in Daniel and Nils’ year in BDC, however, I have not had the chance to talk to her yet.

After school, I went with Armaan, Daniel, Max and Ryan to the gym, which was very big. I found it very fun, and I tried the bench press. Somehow, Daniel injured himself in a few different ways in a single gym session.
After going to the gym, I went to a ramen restaurant with Daniel’s Dad and Daniel. I was surprised that there was a ramen restaurant in Coffs Harbour! While I got the normal toppings, they also had an option to swap Pork Chashu for Karaage, which Daniel and his Dad chose, and is something I have never seen before.
The weekend was a bit boring because it was raining most of the time, however, I was able to go out for lunch with Daniel’s Dad and Daniel to Park Beach Plaza, the local shopping mall, where we had Vietnamese Pho and Boba Tea.
After that when it wasn’t raining, Daniel and I went to Diggers Beach which is near his house and skipped rocks for a bit before going back.
As it was raining a lot after that and we were indoors, I played table tennis against Daniel which was quite fun. Alongside that, I watched an NBA playoffs game between the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons on the TV which was quite exciting.

今週はBDCでの生活の最初の週。ここに来たとき、みんな本当に親切だと思った。
また、BDCの雰囲気はCCGSとは少し違うとも感じたが、まだよく分からない。見た目にも、緑の多さや校舎の配置など、BDCはCCGSとは結構違う印象を受けた。でも、まだ学校全体を回れていないため、詳しくは分からない。
今週は木曜日にコフスハーバーに到着したばかりだったため、あまり多くのことはできなかった。でもその木曜日には1つだけ授業に出ることができた。それは経済の授業で、昨年上田西に留学していたデイジーが同じクラスにいて驚いた。授業を受けてみて、経済はとても難しいと感じた。
金曜日が初めての1日通しの授業日だった。学校が始まる前に、インドとフランスのハーフのアルマーンやベンと友達になって、ダニエルと3人で学校のカフェに行き、ホットチョコレートを買った。とてもおいしかった。
最初に全校集会がありましたが、正直少し退屈だった。でも、ダニエルの所属する「マレー」ハウスが、去年最下位だったにもかかわらずクロスカントリーで優勝したと聞いて驚いた。その後、また経済の授業があり、今回は「需要の価格弾力性」について学んだ。授業の後は休み時間で、食堂でミートパイとフィンガーバンを買いました。ミートパイはとてもおいしかったがフィンガーバンはまあまあだった。笑
次の授業ではニルズと一緒に彼の数学のクラスに参加した。その授業では「標準偏差」について学んでいて、僕は使い慣れていない計算機だったこともあり、結構難しいと感じた。
昼休みには、テオ、ザビエル、デュークとも友達になった。そのあと、ダニエルの日本語の授業に参加した。そのクラスで、ゆきななおともまた会うことができてうれしかった。ただ、日本語のクラスがとても小さいことに驚いた。ダニエル以外の生徒は、昨年上田西に来ていたリリーだけだった。その後は化学の授業に参加しました。先生はとても優しくて、化学は面白そうだと思った。
それから、BDCのニルスとダニエルの学年に「サホ」という日本人の女の子がいることにも気づいたが、話す機会がなかった。

放課後は、アルマーン、ダニエル、マックス、ライアンと一緒にジムに行った。とても大きなジムで、すごく楽しかったです。私はベンチプレスに挑戦しました。なぜかダニエルは1回のジムでいろんなケガをしていた笑。
ジムの後は、ダニエルのお父さんとダニエルと一緒にラーメン屋に行った。コフスハーバーにラーメン屋があることに驚いた。僕は普通のトッピングにしたが、チャーシューの代わりに唐揚げを選べるオプションもあり、ダニエルとお父さんはそれを選んでいて、僕はそれを初めて見た。
週末は雨が多かったので少し退屈たったが、ダニエルとお父さんと一緒に「パークビーチプラザ」というショッピングモールにランチに行き、ベトナムのフォーとタピオカティーを飲んだ。
その後、雨がやんだときに、ダニエルと一緒に彼の家の近くにある「ディガーズビーチ」に行って、石を投げて遊んだ。
そのあとまた雨が降ってきたので、屋内でダニエルと卓球をして遊びました。とても楽しかった。さらに、テレビでNBAのプレーオフ、ニューヨーク・ニックス対デトロイト・ピストンズの試合を見た。それもとても面白かった。
