It’s been a week since I arrived in Australia.
I experienced a lot that week.
I went to the forest athletics with my host family.
I was surprised that the athletic facilities were twice as tall as I had imagined, but it was a lot of fun.
When someone was in trouble at the athletics center, it was a heartwarming sight to see people who had never met before helping each other out. On the way there was a thunderstorm and I was a little worried because I was in the woods, but I was able to get home safely. On another day, I went shopping with my host family, Daisy. She is the same age as me, but I felt very strange when I heard that she can already drive and she actually drove the car. Her driving was polite and the ride was very comfortable. There were a lot of accessories and food on sale at the shopping center, and I was able to enjoy it in a different way than in Japan. I also made a new discovery: there were people who came to the store barefoot. It was a bit surprising as it’s something I don’t see very often, but it was interesting. I really enjoyed talking to Daisy about her experiences in Japan and about Australia. On another day, I walked on the beach with Nao, another international student. It was a great change of pace as we were able to talk about our current situations and other topics after meeting for the first time in a while. In Australia, people talk a lot and you rarely see people using their smartphones compared to Japan, so there are plenty of opportunities to talk. So there are lots of chances to talk, but I’m still not used to the speed of conversation and can’t keep up, so I’d like to try my best to participate in the conversation as much as possible.

オーストラリアに着いて1週間が経ちました。その1週間の中でもまた、沢山のことをしました。私はホストファミリーと森のアスレチックに行きました。想像の倍アスレチックの高さがあったので驚きましたが、とても楽しめました。アスレチックの進み方で困っていると初対面の人でも構わずお互いに助け合いをしている光景を目にしてすごく温かい気持ちになりました。途中で雷雨がきて森の中だったので少し不安でしたが無事帰ることが出来ました。そして別の日には、ホストファミリーのデイジーとショッピングに行きました。彼女は同い年なのですが、もう運転をすることが出来るというのを聞いてとても不思議な感覚になりました。そして、彼女が実際に運転してくれました。彼女の運転は丁寧で乗っていてとても心地よかったです。ショッピングではたくさんのアクセサリーや食べ物が売っており、日本とはまた違う楽しみ方をすることができました。そして新たな発見をしました。それは裸足で来店している人がいたということです。普段目にしない光景だったので少し驚きましたが興味深かったです。デイジーとは彼女が日本にいた時の経験やオーストラリアのことを話せてとても楽しかったです。そして、また別の日には同じ留学生の愛緒とビーチを散歩しました。久々に会いお互いの近況など沢山話すことが出来てとてもよい気分転換になりました。
オーストラリアでは普段から会話が多く、日本よりスマホを使用している光景を目にすることは少ないです。なので、トークするチャンスはたくさんあります。しかし、まだ会話のスピードに慣れずついていけていないことが多いので少しでも会話に参加できるように頑張りたいです。
