This week, I spent a lot of time watching World Cup matches with my friends at school. Since the games started early in the morning, I sometimes woke up at 5 a.m. to watch them, so I felt sleepy on some days.
What surprised me the most was that we watched the World Cup on the classroom TV during lessons. This would never happen in Japan, so I was very surprised. I thought the classes were very relaxed and enjoyable. I also felt that it was very foreign because students talked to teachers like friends.
I can understand normal conversations, but when people get excited after a goal and start speaking very fast, I cannot understand them at all. I want to improve my English so that I can understand those situations too.
On the weekend, I watched the Japan vs Tunisia match with my host family. Japan won 4–0, and it was a very exciting game to watch. What impressed me the most was the number of Japanese supporters, their loud cheering, and the way they cleaned up the stadium after the match.
Even though Mexico is very far from Japan, many supporters came to watch the game and cheered loudly. I thought that was amazing. I was also impressed that they picked up trash after the match. I think that is a wonderful thing to do.
今週は4年に1回開かれるW杯の試合を学校では友達とひたすら見ていました。朝5時に起きて試合を見始めることもあったので眠い日も何日かありました。自分が驚いたのは教室にあるテレビでW杯を見ながら授業をしていたことです。
日本だと絶対にありえないことなのでかなり驚きました。自由な授業でとても良いなと思いました。先生とも友達のように仲良く話をしているのも海外らしいなと思いました。普通の会話はできるけれど、点が入って興奮して早口になると何を言ってるかが全くわからなくなってしまうのでそうゆうのも理解できるようになりたいです。週末はホストファミリーと日本対チュニジアの試合を見ました。結果は4対0とかなり圧倒していて見ていてとても面白い試合でした。自分が驚いたのは日本サポーターの多さと声量と試合後のゴミ拾いです。メキシコというとても遠い場所なのに多くの人が集まって大きな声を出してほんとうに凄いチームだなと思いました。試合後もゴミ拾いを行なっていて素晴らしいことだなと思いました。
