On Saturday, my host parents, their friends, and I went to see the opera Tosca. I had only briefly studied opera in junior high school and had never really had the opportunity to experience it before, so I was very excited to attend my first live opera performance.
Even the lobby was decorated to reflect the world of the opera, which made me even more excited for the performance.
Since the opera was sung in Italian, English subtitles were displayed above the stage. I followed the story by reading the subtitles while listening to the music. My seat was in the second row from the front, so I was able to hear the orchestra and the singers’ voices up close, which made the performance even more powerful and immersive. I was especially impressed by how the singers expressed emotional changes through their voices. The beautiful live singing and their magnificent vocal power resonated deeply in my heart. The sense of unity between the orchestra and the opera singers was also breathtaking. Although the performance was two and a half hours long, it felt much shorter because I was completely drawn into the world of the stage. The story of Tosca was easy to follow, so even as a first-time opera audience member, I was able to fully enjoy it. My host mother, who loves opera, told me that this was the most moving performance she has seen in Victoria. Since ballet does not include spoken dialogue, watching a performance with dialogue felt fresh and revealed a new kind of artistic charm. It became one of the most memorable performances I have ever seen.
土曜日にホストペアレント、その友人とオペラ公演「トスカ」を観に行きました。オペラは中学校で少し学んだ程で今まで触れる機会が無かったので初のオペラ公演がとても楽しみでした。
ロビーもオペラの世界観が演出されていて、更に公演の期待が高まりました。
公演はイタリア語での歌唱のため舞台の上に字幕装置があり英語の字幕が表示されました。字幕を見ながら物語を理解していきました。座席が前から2列目だったため、オーケストラの演奏や歌手の歌声を間近で聞くことができ、より一層迫力を感じました。歌で感情の変化を表現しているところがドラマチックで印象的でした。また、美しい生の歌声と壮大な歌唱力が心の底まで響き渡りました。オーケストラとオペラ歌手の一体感も圧巻でした。舞台の世界に入り込み2時間半の公演があっという間に終わってしまいました。トスカは物語の内容を理解しやすく初めての私でも楽しむことが出来た作品でした。オペラ好きだと言うホストマザーも今回の公演はビクトリアで鑑賞した中で1番感動したと話してくれました。バレエは台詞が無いため台詞付きの公演は新鮮で新たな魅力がありました。今まで見た中でも心に残る公演の１つになりました。
