New Year’s Eve is on December 31st. In the afternoon, I went to see a gingerbread house showcase. This showcase celebrated its 17th year this year, and many people, including local residents and tourists, visit it every year. About 30 gingerbread houses were lined up. They varied in size, shape, and color, and each one was full of character. They were carefully made down to the smallest details, and I was surprised to see that some even faithfully recreated the inside of the houses, including living rooms and furniture. Visiting the showcase made me feel cheerful and uplifted.
Dinner consisted of white rice, California rolls, shrimp tempura, and salad. On the table were chopsticks that my host parents had bought in Japan. Eating white rice and tempura with chopsticks made the food taste even better, and it made me miss Japan. I was happy and grateful for my host parents’ kindness in preparing Japanese food and chopsticks on New Year’s Eve.
After dinner, I spent time watching The “Mummy” parts 1 and 2 with my host father.
Synopsis
1, Three thousand years ago in Egypt, a high priest who fell in love with the king’s mistress was sealed deep underground in the City of the Dead, Hamunaptra. Many years later, in 1923, an expedition visiting the site for academic research accidentally revives the high priest, who awakens with deep resentment.
2, Eight years after the deadly battle at Hamunaptra, Rick and Evelyn are married and living a happy life with their son. When they return to Egypt, they discover a golden bracelet and bring it back to London. However, their son puts it on out of curiosity and is soon kidnapped.
The movie had both lighthearted and humorous moments as well as tense and thrilling scenes, so I was able to enjoy it from beginning to end.
It was a movie that made me feel the strong bonds between friends and family.
As midnight approached, we paused the movie to welcome the New Year. When the clock struck twelve, we said “Happy New Year” to each other. We could also hear the sound of fireworks outside.
My study abroad experience now has only half a year left. In the second half, I want to continue working hard toward my goals and gain many more experiences.
12月31日大晦日。
お昼頃にジンジャーブレッドハウスのショーケースを見に行きました。このショーケースは今年で17年目を迎え、地元の人や観光客など多くの人が毎年訪れているそうです。30個近くのジンジャーブレッドハウスが並べられていました。大きさや形、色など様々でどれも個性豊かな作品ばかりでした。細部まで丁寧に作られており､中には家の中のリビングや家具などまで忠実に再現されているものもあり驚きました。ショーケースを訪れて、明るい気持ちになれました。
夕食は白米、カリフォルニアロール、海老の天ぷら、サラダでした。食卓にはホストペアレントが日本で購入した箸が並べられていました。箸で食べる白米や天ぷらはより一層美味しく感じ日本が懐かしくなりました。大晦日の夜に日本食や箸を用意してくれたホストペアレントの優しさが嬉しかったです。
夕食後はホストファザーと一緒に映画『ハムナプトラ』の1と2を見て過ごしました。
~あらすじ~
⒈3000年前のエジプト。王の愛人と恋仲になった高僧が、死者の都ハムナプトラの地中深くに封じられる。時は経ち、1923年。学術調査のためにその地を訪れた探検隊が、深い怨念と共に棺に眠るその高僧をよみがえらせてしまう。
2. ハムナプトラの死闘から8年。結婚したリックとエヴリンは、息子と共に幸せな日々を過ごしていた。そんな折、エジプトを再訪した2人は金の腕輪を発見。ロンドンに持ち帰るが、好奇心でそれを着けた息子が誘拐されてしまう。
少し面白い場面から緊張感あふれるスリリングな場面などがあり終始楽しむことができました。仲間や家族の絆を感じることのできる映画でした。
映画の途中で年越しが迫り一時中断して年越しを迎えました。0時になると”Happy New Year “とお互いに言いました。外では花火の音も聞こえました。
留学も残り半年となりました。後半も目標に向かって引き続き頑張り、多くの経験をしたいです。
