On Saturday, I went out with my three friends from VAB. For the first time, we went out to eat Korean dishes for lunch. We ordered lunch sets that included an appetizer, rice, soup and main dish. For the main dish, we chose beef bulgogi, spicy chicken bulgogi, don katsu, and mackerel grilled with salt, and we all shared them. There were six different appetizers, and while some were dishes I’d never tried before, they were all delicious. I especially liked chapchae. Both the bulgogi, which has Korean taste, and the don katsu, which has a Japanese taste, are delicious and my favorites. I could eat authentic Korean dishes and savor the mood there in Korea.
And then, we went to see the performance “Aladdin” by the professional ballet company Ballet Victoria. This was the first ballet performance to see since I’d come to Canada. Also, I was looking forward to seeing how the Aladdin story would be expressed in ballet. The ballet performances I have seen until now, expressed a story and worldview through stage sets, curtains,etc. However, this performance took a different direction. The production featured visuals on the screen changing with each scene. I was surprised by the evolution of ballet performances using new technology. I was completely blown away by the perfectly coordinated dance routines and comical performances. The beauty of the dance itself was wonderful, of course, but I also learned a lot about the expressive power that captivates the audience. Throughout the performance, it was a continuous series of surprises and discoveries. I want to apply what I learned from the performance to my future lessons.
After the performance, we went to the cafe. The store was busy with many customers.I ordered the cake called bread pudding. It was a variety I’d never tried before, but it was delicious with its mellow sweetness.
Spending time with my friends was so fun and could be refreshing.

【Language school 】
This week’s grammar class focused on conjunctions. On Monday and Tuesday, we studied conjunctions like “and,” “but,” and “so.” It was helpful to revisit these commonly used conjunctions. Starting Wednesday, we studied correlative conjunctions—a type of conjunction that connects two parts of speech or clauses. Some uses were new for me, and it was difficult to grasp just by listening. By solving problems and creating sentences using correlative conjunctions myself, I gradually understood them. Through the lessons, I realized that knowing the correct answers to my own writing leads to a deeper understanding.

土曜日にVABの友人3人と外出しました。まず、お昼ご飯に韓国料理を食べに行きました。前菜、白米、スープ、メインディッシュのついたランチセットをみんなで頼みました。メインディッシュはビーフプルコギ、スパイシーチキンプルコギ、ドンカツ(日本ではトンカツ)、サバの塩焼きを選びみんなでシェアして食べました。前菜は6種類もあり初めて食べる料理もありましたがどれも美味しかったです。特に私はチャプチェが気に入りました。プルコギは韓国、ドンカツとサバの塩焼きは日本の味付けでどちらも美味しく私の好みでした。本格的な韓国料理を堪能できて韓国に居る気分を味わえました。
その後、バレエ・ビクトリアというプロのカンパニーの公演｢アラジン｣を観に行きました。カナダに来て初めて観るバレエ公演です。また、アラジンの物語をバレエでどう表現するのか、とても楽しみでした。今まで私が観てきたバレエの公演は舞台装置や幕などで物語やバレエの世界観を表現していました。しかし、今回の公演は全く異なる演出でした。場面ごとにスクリーンの映像が変わる演出だったのです。新しい技術を用いたバレエ公演の進化に驚きました。コールドの揃った踊りやコミカルな演技には圧倒されました。踊りの素晴らしさはもちろんですが、観ている人を楽しませる表現力も勉強になりました。公演中は終始、驚きと発見の連続でした。公演から学んだことを今後のレッスンに活かしたいです。
公演後にカフェに行きました。店内は多くのお客さんで賑わっていました。私はBread puddingというケーキを頼みました。初めて食べる種類でしたが、まろやかな甘みで美味しかったです。
友人と過ごす時間はとても楽しくリフレッシュできました。

【語学学校】
今週の文法クラスは接続詞の授業でした。月曜日、火曜日はandやbut,soなどの接続詞を習いました。普段からよく使う接続詞を改めて習い直すことが出来て良かったです。水曜日からは相関接続詞という２つの品詞、節を繋ぐ接続詞を勉強しました。初見の使い方もあり聞くだけだと理解するのが難しかったです。問題を解き自分で相関接続詞を用いた文を考え書くことで徐々に理解できました。授業を通じて自分の書いた文の正解を知ると、より深い理解に繋がることを実感しました。
