【BDC交換留学 ウィークリーレポート②】内川愛緒さん

Last week, I went to Sydney for three days. In Sydney, after seeing the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, I took a boat to meet Lily’s older sister Jasmine and her boyfriend. The next day, after going shopping, I visited the aquarium and the zoo. I was also taken to a ramen shop called “Ichibanboshi”, and I was able to eat ramen for the first time in a while. It was very delicious.
This week, I went to a school in Australia called BDC for the first time. Lily introduced the school to me, and I learned that it’s completely different from schools in Japan. There was also a Japanese student named Saho at BDC. She is one year older than me and teaches me many things. Thanks to her, I was able to make friends with people I usually wouldn’t have the chance to talk to.
Compared to schools in Japan, I feel that everything at BDC—classes and homeroom—is much more relaxed and free. That makes it feel very comfortable and truly enjoyable for me. However, when I talk to my Australian friends, I still have trouble understanding them or expressing my own thoughts clearly, so from now on, I want to ask more questions and improve my listening skills.
Recently, I’ve been talking more with Lily at night. The other day, we talked about school rules. I thought BDC didn’t have any rules, but she told me that they do exist—they’re just not strictly followed. Since school rules are very strict in Japan, the freedom here feels very “overseas-like” and made me a little jealous. We also talked about the differences in food and culture between Japan and Australia. I was surprised when Lily said she thinks moths are cute. She said their antennae are cute, which I couldn’t understand, but that made our conversation even more interesting.

先週、私は3日間シドニーに行きました。シドニーでは、オペラハウスやハーバーブリッチを見た後、船に乗ってLilyの姉のジャスミンと、その彼氏さんに会いに行きました。次の日には買い物をした後、水族館と動物園に行きました。また、一番星というラーメン屋に連れて行ってもらえて、久しぶりにラーメンを食べる事ができました。とても美味しかったです。
今週は、初めてオーストラリアにあるBDCという学校に行きました。
Lilyが学校を紹介してくれて、日本とは全く異なることを知りました。また、BDCにはさほという日本の生徒もいました。彼女は私より年が一個上で、いろんなことを教えてくれます。彼女のおかげで、普段は関われないような友達も作る事ができました。
BDCは日本に比べて授業もホームルームも、全てとても自由だと感じます。それが私にとって、居心地が良くて本当に楽しいです。ですが、オーストラリアの友達と話す時、まだ聞き取れなかったり、自分の意見をうまく伝えられないので、まずは聞き取れるようにこれからもっとたくさん質問をしていきたいです。
最近は夜、Lilyとよりたくさん話すようになりました。この間は、学校の校則について話しました。私は、BDCには校則がないと思っていました。ですが、あまり守らないだけであると教えてもらいました。日本は校則に厳しいので、自由なところが海外らしくて羨ましく感じました。
その他にも日本とオーストラリアの食べ物や文化の違いを話しました。私は、Lilyは蛾が可愛いと言っていて驚きました。触覚が可愛いそうで、私には理解ができず話が盛り上がりました。
