【BDC交換留学 ウィークリーレポート⑥】菅裕之介さん

先週の日曜日、サーフィンに比べると小さくて軽いサーフボードを使ったボディサーフに挑戦しました。ボディーサーフはうまく波に乗ることができたら海岸近くまで波の力で行くことができますが、うまく波に乗れないと、遠くへは行けません。波に乗ることはとても難しかったです。気温はあまり高くありませんでしたが、ボディサーフに集中していたので挑戦している間は寒さを感じませんでした。私はその日に10回以上挑戦しましたが、うまく波に乗れたのは1回だけでした。成功したときはとても楽しく、興奮しました。この経験から、成功までの間の挑戦や練習で楽しさや興奮をあまり感じられなくても、成功には本当に価値があるということを学びました。
その翌日、私のホストファミリーは動物園に連れて行ってくれました。カンガルーに餌をあげました。始めは私の近くにカンガルーは1匹も集まりませんでしたが、私はカンガルーに近づき続けました。そうすると、だんだんカンガルーは私の手に集まり始め餌を与えることができました。私の手から餌を食べているカンガルーは、私の犬に似ているなと思いました。かわいかったです。私は動物園の職員による何種類かの動物の説明を聞きました。私が驚いたのは、コアラは必要な水分はユーカリの葉から摂取できるというものです。素晴らしいと思いました。たくさんのコアラがいましたが、起きているコアラは2、3匹でした。なぜなら彼らは1日に18時間以上寝るからです。私も1日に18時間以上寝れたらいいなと思いました。
今週は今までよりも過ぎるのが早く感じました。私は来週の火曜日にオーストラリアを離れます。残された数日を楽しみたいと思います。
Last Saturday, I tried body surfing which uses smaller and lighter surfboard compared to surfing. If we succeed to ride on a wave, we can move to near the coast by the power of the wave, but if we fail, we can’t move long distances. It was really difficult to ride on a wave. The temperature was not so high, however I didn’t feel cold while trying to ride because I focused on riding. I tried more than ten times on that day, however I could only ride well one time. That success riding was really fun and I was excited. From this experience, I learned the success can be really valuable if there is not much fun and excitement while trying and practicing to succeed.
The next day, my host family took me to the zoo. I fed some kangaroos. At first, no kangaroos came to my hand to eat, but I kept approaching the kangaroos. Finally, they gradually gathered around my hand and I could feed kangaroos. The kangaroos which were eating food from my hand looked like my dog eating food from my hand. They were cute. I listened to the instructions about some animals by zoo staff. I was surprised that koalas can get water to live by eating eucalyptus leaves. That’s amazing! There were many koalas, although there were only two or three koalas awake. That’s because they sleep over 18 hours in a day. I wonder if I can sleep over 18 hours in a day.
This week has passed much faster than before. I’m going to leave here on next Tuesday. I want to enjoy the remained days.
